To celebrate Sharpie's 50th anniversary, we were tasked with executing a campaign centered around their year-long promotion entitled 50 Ways to Use a Sharpie. To get people thinking about using Sharpies in unexpected ways, we presented the public with the one thing every doodler loves – a blank canvas.
We gave people the tools and the reach to give our ads a little color.
And put wild postings in spots where people couldn’t resist a little doodling.
We even let mother nature get creative with our ads, making a billboard that turned from all-white to colorful doodles when it got wet.
Brand partners then stepped up, allowing us to create limited runs of Sharpie-customizable shoes.
But eventually we needed an even bigger canvas to draw on, so we partnered with Chicago’s famous Merchandise Mart building to sponsor their nightly video projection and turn the side of the giant, historic building into the world’s largest living Sharpie doodle.
